Very pretty, intelligent, modest, shy and introverted describes God fearing and God loving Minda Milagros Ramos Videna who was the 6th and youngest child born to Ignacio and Encarnacion Ramos on May 7, 1945. Five months after her birth, Milagros or “Lagring” as she was endearingly called would be left to the care of her granduncle and grandaunt blessing them with the opportunity of finally having a child when Lagring’s parents died five months consecutively after her birth from pneumonia in Silang, Cavite, Philippines. When Milagros was 5 years old, her granduncle and grandaunt was called to God leaving her in the care of her older brother, Blas Ramos, and older sisters Paula Ramos Maigue, Mamerta Ramos Caparas, Ursula Ramos Montoya, and Alicia Ramos Lagamson.
She is remembered for her beauty and style captivating her small town of Silang during town fiestas where she would ride a float as their muse in parades just as her mother did as well as being honored with the title of Miss Congenality. Following in her eldest brother’s footsteps of Kuya Blas, Milagros earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education (General Science) at the University of Philippines, Diliman as an honor student graduating as the Salutatorian of her class as did her brother years earlier.
She started teaching science at the Cavite Institute (C.I.). Conflicted with her desire to dedicate her life to God by becoming a Catholic Nun and living a convent life, a priest told her to take time to see what else God would want for her. She ended up marrying US Navy man Redentor Videna on February 10, 1969 with God immediately blessing them both with three wonderful children for the next 3 years, Mary-Merwin, JR, and Rederic (Bobby). In 1974 their young family moved to San Francisco where she loved to crochet, bake and decorate beautiful cakes and take Merwin to ballet classes. The family moved to San Diego in November 1976. She worked at Kyocera and Continuous Curve before God blessed the family with their 4th and last child, Minda, before moving to Long Island, New York in 1981.
There she was able to continue her stylish ways shopping with the family at one of the world’s fashion capitals NYC. The family returned to San Diego where they established their roots. Milagros then became a Contract Specialist Civil Servant for the Supervisor of Ship Building (SupShip) until she suffered a stroke or T.I.A. leaving her paralyzed on one side of her body. God healed her within hours stunning and leaving her attending medical staff completely baffled. She retired at the age of 55 years in 1998. Mila loved to go out to eat, listen to Anne Murray, Elvis, the Righteous Brothers, read the Bible and pray.
She was a devout Catholic Christian and though very shy, enjoyed laughing and being funny with her great sense of humor. She taught CCD at St. Charles Catholic Church, became Minda’s Girl Scout Brownie Troop Leader, and supported her children and only grandchild, Calysta, until God took her back home at 3:22pm on Monday, April 11, 2016 in Room 6124 at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with her husband holding her left hand and Merwin holding her right hand. Milagros joins her parents and siblings in heaven and is survived by her husband, Redentor, children Merwin, JR, Bobby, and Minda, her grand-daughter and best friend Calysta, and puppy, Jedi.
Final Farewell Services for Milagros Videna will be held Saturday through Monday, April 23-April 25 from 5pm-9pm at Glen Abbey Little Chapel of the Roses. A 10am Mass will be held for Milagros Videna on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at St. Charles Catholic Church with a police escort to Miramar National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest in peace.
