Marlin Louis Ashcraft was born on June 2, 1938 in Pueblo, CO. He was born the second of four sons to Fannie Mae Archer Ashcraft and Willis Vaughn Ashcraft. In 1956, Marlin moved to Springfield, MO to attend Central Bible Institute, where he met his wife, Judith Anne DeVito Ashcraft. They were married in Pueblo on August 22, 1959.
Their first daughter, Joy Anne, was born on July 13, 1960, and on February 5, 1963, Michele Louise came along. Marlin graduated with his bachelors degree and teaching credential from Los Angeles State College in the Spring of 1965. They settle in San Diego County in 1969 where he taught elementary school for over 30 years in the Chula Vista Unified School District. Marlin was an active member of his church and an enthusiastic hobbyist. During his younger years, he was a fisherman and a hunter. His later years consisted of lapidary and globe-trotting with his beautiful wife. He was a Sunday school superintendent and deacon, and outside of church, he was a Gideon’s chaplain. He conducted missions trips, and he sang in the choir.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Anne; three brothers, Ronald, Aaron and Vernon Ashcraft; two daughters, Joy Oostra, married to Bob, and Michele Allen, married to Lorn; his five grandchildren, Peter, Aaron and Carissa Oostra (Wylie), and Ashley and Aleesa Allen; and his great-grandson, Derek Wylie.
