Lynn was born in Saigon, Vietnam, one of eight children to Chau and Rang Nguyen. She grew up in the French school system, earning a Baccalaureate Diploma and a diploma in Pedagogy from the French Department of Education. She taught at the College Fraternite until Communists took over the country in 1975, thereafter self employing as a French instructor at a time when the teaching of foreign languages was prohibited. Later, Lynn tried to escape by boat, but was caught. In 1985, she reunited with her family in Sacramento and became a U.S. Citizen. From her brief marriage, she gave birth to her only son, Dan Nguyen.
Following divorce, Lynn restarted her life in San Diego. She worked full time while raising her toddler and earning an Associate Degree in Information Systems from San Diego City College, then a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University in 1992. While finishing college, she met Eldon Harley, the love of her life, and moved to Chula Vista with him. They enjoyed home decorating, road tripping, cooking, and growing amazing cacti and succulents together. They were happily married from 2003 until Eldon’s passing in 2014. Dan kept up the tradition of travel, taking Lynn on adventures through Washington D.C, New York, Philadelphia, Maryland, Delaware, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, and parts of California she never visited before.
Lynn worked from 1989 through 2000 as an Eligibility Technician for the County of San Diego, administering programs like Medi-Cal, Food Stamps, Childcare Alternate Program, and In Home Supportive Services. She served 11 years as an Auditor at the California State Compensation Insurance Fund. She was a Realtor from 2008 until her passing, associating with Watkins Realty Group and later Prudential California Realty, which became Berkshire-Hathaway HomeServices California Properties.
Lynn was loving, generous, and filled with positive energy, having made many friends. She is survived by her son, two sisters, a sister-in-law, three brother-in-laws, and their families. Lynn’s ashes will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery, beside Eldon’s. She will forever be in our hearts.
