Leonardo Yap Alcantara, known to family and friends as "Nanding" age 81, of National City, California passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Leonardo was born January 19, 1940 in Cavite City Philippines to Ricardo Alcantara and Encarnacion Alcantara.
He served our country in the US Navy for 20 years and retired in 1984. He also served his community as a Free Mason. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, appreciated classical music, played many musical instruments and a ham radio enthusiast. An avid chess player, he was a member of the US Chess Federation.
Leonardo is survived by his wife, Lucita Silvano Alcantara; daughter Myrissa Alcantara Yamashiro (Dublin, Ireland); son Nolan Silvano Alcantara (Hanover, Maryland), sister Gloria Ramulla Tuquero (Chula Vista, CA); grandson Julian Yoichi Yamashiro (Tokyo, Japan).
A visitation for Leonardo will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Glen Abbey's "Little Chapel of the Roses", 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, California 91902. A Family Hour of Prayer will be observed at 7pm with Rev. Nelson Castorillo of First United Methodist Church National City.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private committal service will occur Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, California 92122.
Serving as pallbearers are: Neilo Alcantara, Jun Alcantara, Rey Alcantara, Merito Alcantara, Gil Tuquero, and Gene Barbon.
