I didn’t know Joe until he join CBET at IMB. I was mids and he was swings.  Joe was an Outstanding Fit and was an above and beyond SBPA

It was always a blast hanging out with Jose "Chickenhawk" Contreras. Jose was a good friend, a great person and one of the best Agents in the Patrol. You will be missed brotha.

I always felt that Jose was the younger but yet older and wiser brother I never had. He was a self-propelled party and would unleash with affect good vibes and joy at a moments notice. He possessed endless energy. Jose was generous, kind and armed with razor sharp wit. I had many conversations with Jose about life, world history and science. He was man of many talents. His advice was simple, direct and meaningful. I will miss you Jose. Rest in peace.

My uncle Jose was one of my favorite people. I remember growing up & visiting my aunt & uncle in Chula Vista over the summer and him always taking care of my cousins and I. Taking us on the coolest trips, the best places to eat, teaching us how to drive, going to the beach, setting up tents in the back yard & lighting up bon fires… Jose was always ready to host & make sure his family & friends were happy & having a good time. I have so many memories that I will never forget & will always remember how amazing he was to us. How he always made sure I was taken care of & gave me the best advice when I needed it the most no matter how far I lived. Jose was literally the best uncle & I will miss him so much & always have him with me in my heart.

Jose Contreras knows as (pepino)  was a great son, brother , nephew, uncle and cousin anyone could ever have he had such a big heart. His smile just made everyone’s  day much brighter. He loved and enjoy his family he was such a family guy who truly enjoyed every minute and moment of life. You will forever be missed primo. May you Rest In Peace ❤️

Sergeant Jose Contreras was one of the best Marines I had the privilege and honor to serve with. I do not say that lightly. He was not a good garrison Marine or a good field Marine, Jose was a Marines Marine! He loved he Corps, and was one of those Marines you cold go to for anything.  I lost contact with him after our careers  went separate ways, but his impact on my life and character are priceless. Most of my good memories of my time in the  Corps are of Sgt. Contreras and our time in 1st Intel Bn.
