James Lawrence Bonn, 75, died March 28, 2020 at home in San Diego with friends Juan and Marina Valdez after an extended illness. James was born January 7, 1945 to James Corriell and Evelyn Nelson Corriell in Kansas and was raised in Texas by his mother and adoptive father Russell Bunn.
James’ early career years were in business with Crown Zellerbach in Los Angeles and then in the San Diego, California office where he was manager. James acquired a love for aviation as a child and while in Texas obtained a license for piloting small aircraft. Flying was always a favorite leisure activity, and he often used his license to fly to agricultural clients while at Zellerbach in San Diego.
James is a graduate of Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, New Jersey. In later years he returned to school to study law. He attended California Western University, graduating with a law degree in 1996. His specialties were business and Immigration law with jurisdictions to practice in California and Colorado. He also enjoyed many years of membership in American Mensa.
James is survived by his brother Gregory Bonn, sister-in-law Janine, niece Mar Bonn, cousins Bruce Hagen, Joan and John Hughson and their sons David, Dustin and their daughter Holly who was especially beloved by James.
He is lovingly remembered and cherished for his bright mind, clever wit and engaging conversations. He can also be remembered through donations to the West Coast Chapter of Angel Flights.
