Known as “Mac” to his many friends, he was born May 23, 1923 in Gardena, California to Charles and Laura McCullough. Passed on February 3, 2013 in Hemet, having lived in Southern California just short of ninety years.
Dad grew up in the Otay area, graduating from John J. Montgomery Elementary and Sweetwater Union High School. He entered the U.S. Merchant Marine Service in 1942. During WWII he served with the Merchant Marine in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Pacific war zones.
Mac married the love of his life, Pearl Marie Campos, in San Francisco, on November 19, 1945. Mom was a student nurse at Mount Zion hospital at the time. After his discharge from the Merchant Marine, the two of them moved to Otay to raise their family. Dad returned to Rohr Corporation, Chula Vista, where he worked for forty-two years. Most of that time as an electronics technician.
Dad was known for his vegetable gardens. He was particularly proud of the sweet corn that he grew. Mac also enjoyed the outdoors, never failing to guide the family on several camping trips each year. Our many trips to the Meling ranch and to coastal Baja California for fishing and camping were particularly memorable.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Albert and Robert. He leaves behind Pearl, his beloved wife of 67 years, two brothers (Roy and Frank), a sister (Hazel), three sons (Arthur, Charles and Timothy), seven grandchildren (Tamara, Jamelle, Thomas, Andrew, James, Michael and Jessica) and three great-grandchildren (Colt, Silas and Tobias).
