Florante Famisan was born in Zambales, Philippines. He was the sixth and youngest child of Rosa Fortin and Anastacio Famisan. Florante enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a young adult and faithfully served his country for 21 years. His time in the Navy included tours in Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Guam, Taiwan, and Thailand. He was the humble recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his service during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, Florante spent 23 years working at Naval Air Station North Island. Florante was a master craftsman and a skilled gardener. In his spare time, he loved spending hours and hours on home improvement projects. Every inch of the Famisan home - both inside and out - contains a trace of Florante’s hard work, whether it’s as simple as paint on the walls or as complex as the custom landscaping that adorns the front yard.
Florante passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home at 3:00pm, the hour of great mercy. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Ophelia Famisan, along with his 3 children: Gina (Greg) Delgado, Bobby (Lizbeth) Famisan, and Dianne (Martin) Kintana. He had a special place in his heart for each of his children and possessed an even greater affection for each and every one of his grandchildren - Melissa, Brandon, Justin, Audric, Jeremy, Conrad, Benjamin, and Gia - and his sole great-grandchild, Carlos.
A Memorial Service for Florante will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at The Chapel of the Roses at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am on March 26, 2024 at St. Michael’s Church, followed by a burial at 1:00pm at Miramar National Cemetery.
