He graduated from Nueva Ecija South High School in 1953. Soon after graduation, Emilio enlisted into the U.S. Navy. He attended boot camp in San Diego, CA.
Emilio, in 1960, while stationed in Philadelphia, PA, attended a party where he set eyes on his future wife Rustica (Rose) Chuidian. He proved resilient – courting her for nearly three years.
They wed on Jan. 12, 1963, in San Diego, while he was stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk. Later that year, they became parents to a son, Emil Jr.
While stationed in Japan, they also gave birth to their daughter Emily in 1968.
In 1978, he retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer – having served as a Mess Specialist in the Navy for 25 years.
He continued to work on the Naval Submarine Base, San Diego where he managed the Chief Petty Officer’s Club until 1991.
After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening and cooking – whether it was for family, friends or his Gapan Association.
He passed away on Friday, Sept. 29, at his home in Chula Vista, Calif. He was with his wife, daughter, and grandson, Anthony.
He was preceded in death by his son Emil Jr. He is survived by his wife Rose; his daughter Emily Zaravia; son-in-law Mario Zaravia, daughter-in-law Barbara Chuidian; his grandchildren Paige, Alyssa, David, Matthew and Anthony.
He also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends whose lives he touched immensely – and whom he will continue to watch over.
