Ped was born in Calasio, Pangasinan, Philippines to Eugenio and Priscilla deVera. She attended Columban College in Olongapo and in 1955 married the love of her life Demetrio “Ben” Guarin, whose post in the US Navy brought them to California.
The couple had three children and the family settled in San Diego where Ped taught for several years in the San Ysidro school district. After more than a decade of teaching, Ped decided to help with the family business, Ben & Ped Liquor Stores.
In 1994, Ben and Ped retired to enjoy traveling the world, volunteering at hospitals, and serving as Eucharistic ministers at St. Jerome Catholic Church in San Diego where Ped was also a religious educator.
Ped loved tending to her flowers and was an avid dancer. She and Ben would often perform at many events for the Dagupan City Club of San Diego.
Ped was predeceased by Ben in 2009. She is survived by her children, Sam, Cindi, and Gigi; grandchildren, Catrina, Christie, Matthew, Christopher, Devon, and Nico.
