Bertha Meraz was one of the loveliest women I’ve known. Always caring, giving it all for her kids, both family ones  and students. It was a pleasure to visit the YMCA room that she directed. I remember how she enjoyed serving ice cream and creating a home-like environment for her kids.   To me she will always be CHAPARRITA, which she allowed me to call her.  I remember how she enjoyed working g her garden at home and even at school. She would bring me flowers for the office. And the upgrades at her house!  Ahhh... I could go on and on...  I love you CHAPARRITA, it was a real pleasure !!! Rest In Peace, my dear. 

When I first became a teacher in at Juarez-Lincoln in 1988,  Bertha was my first assistant.  I prefer to think of her as my first teacher as a teacher.  She knew more about teaching and children in her little pinky than I could even think about ever needing to know.   She never told me what I needed to do or how I needed to do it.   She supported me and patiently waited for me to direct her.     I'm sure she knew I needed to find my own way. Through the years, we became friends.  Oddly, I called her Bertha and she "always" called me Miss Quinn.  I used to love to plop myself down in the YMCA after school, tell a funny story or two,  and catch up.  Bertha and Tita (another amazing woman who recently left to be with our Lord)  were always smiling.  They were firm, yet  gentle and loving  with the children entrusted in their care.  I "know" they respected those children the same way they respected their own families.   Bertha Meraz, you didn't leave this earth to become an angel because you have always been one.  If I have any regrets, it is I was never able to have you bake my wedding cake; still single and not hating it:-). I love you Bertha.  Rest in peace my friend.


I’m sorry it took me so long to write something on here. I wasn’t expecting to get a message that my Nina passed away. It been a long time since I last talked to her but she still held and holds a special place in my heart!  My childhood is filled with memories of her. My heartfelt thoughts go out to her children and grandchildren. I’m also sending a very special virtual hug to my Nino!  I know this is one the hardest things you have gone through. Hold on to all the memories and smile. I love you so very much!

Thank you for being you...My/Our Grandma ♥️ I will cherish all the memories forever, you were the one I could tell anything to and never fear judgment. You were always so full of smiles, laughter and love. I can only hope that parts of me came from growing up with you always there.  You will forever be apart of my life and my world I love you so much. I hope i make you proud grandma... I miss you 

Wheat kind of grandma teaches their great grandchildren how to play poker??? MY GRANDMA!! You were the best we are going to miss you so much grandma I love you so much.
