BARBARA JOAN BUTLER ROGERS, age 93 1/2, resident of San Diego, California for the last 64 years passed away on Thursday October 4, 2018. Barbara was born on April 2, 1925 at Sutters Hospital in Sacramento, California to her loving parents Cleo Wesley and Mary Josephine (Mary Jo) Beloat. Barbara was married to Alton “Jack” Dwain Butler (Deceased) and Thomas E. Rogers (Deceased).
Barbara is a fifth-generation pioneer Californian whose family traveled from Albany, New York to St Louis, Missouri, joined a wagon train party heading for California which left shortly after the famous Donner party. Once getting to California the family settled in Sutter’s Fort and Grass Valley.
Barbara grew up in Sacramento, California attending Sierra Elementary, California Jr. High and graduating from C.K. McClatchy High School in 1943 as Valedictorian and Honorary ROTC Captain. Additionally, Barbara achieved several academic and social positions such as, President/Chairman of TOB (Table of Bridge) Sorority and excelled on the debate team. Barbara then attended Sacramento City College where she graduated with an Associate of Arts degree (AA), Majoring in Child Development and Minoring in Art. She was a member of the Com Amiga Sorority and wore her Phi Theta Kappa key with honor and pride.
Once all six of Barbara's children were in school she embarked on her professional career. She held positions at Coopers Plumbing; John Roberts Powers; ModelingMosler-Herman Safe Co; Equitable Life Insurance; and ending her career journey by retiring from the San Diego Police Department in 1989.
Barbara will live fondly in the memory of those she left behind: Barbara’s 6 children, David Dwain Butler of Spring Valley, CA; Jo Ann Cecelia Watters of Evansdale, IA; Retired Lieutenant Commander Peter Beloat (Retired Commander Claudia) Butler of Kaneohe, HI; Jacquelyn Elaine (Robert) Weaver of Valley Center, CA; Cynthia Louise Pugeda of National City, CA and Christina Joy (Jesse) Ruiz of San Diego, CA; 9 grandchildren, Matthew Douglas (Kathy) Watters of Iowa; Michael Jesus Cardona of CA; Marsha Su Ann Watters of Iowa; Michelle Angelia Watters of Iowa; Rene’ Rochelle (Sean) Manatt of CA; Anthony Dwain Pugeda of CA; Active duty Sergeant First Class Brian Jack (Marissa) Weaver of So Korea; Jeffrey Alexander (Sadie) Butler of Hawaii and Melissa Trillianne Butler of CA; 19 Great-grandchildren, 5 Great-great grandchildren (with one more due in March 2019); Her sister, Constance (Woody) Bryan of Orange, CA, 4 Step-children; 4 Step-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
