Sandy was born in Lumberton, NC on May 2, 1943 to parents Herbert and Clara Tyner. Sandy was a graduate of Red Springs High School and UNC Pembroke University.
Sandy and wife Sandra were happily married for thirty-four years, during this time, owned, and operated Sandys’ Seafood at Oak Island for twenty-six years. Sandy also was an independent insurance agent for eighteen years. Sandy was an accomplished fisherman and enjoyed spending time at the river with family and friends.
Sandy proudly served in the US Army from 1966 to 1968 earning the rank of SP 5 while stationed in Germany.
Sandy was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, Winnabow, NC, and served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on numerous committees.
Sandy is survived by wife, Sandra Bowling Tyner, and stepson Bradley Cook of the home. Sandy is also survived by brother, Bob Tyner (Grace) of Whiteville, NC, his uncle, Dr. Wayne Tyner and wife Elizabeth, his aunt, Nora Townsend Laut, nieces and nephews Dwayne Tyner (Phyllis), Denise Hainsey (Ron), and Tammy Breeden (Patrick), and other great nieces and nephews.
Additionally, Sandy is survived by sisters-in-law, Debbie Bowling Shivers (Steve), Lorri Bowling Shipston (Tim), and brother-in law, Gary Bowling (Susan). Other nieces and nephews include Barry, Jodi, and Clint Bowling (Heidi), Taylor Nash, Landon and Grant Shipston, as well as other great nieces and nephews.
Sandy is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Clara Tyner, and brother Kenneth Tyner.
Services will be Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Mill Creek Baptist Church, 1099 George II Hwy. SE, Winnabow, NC 28479 with visitation at 2 PM followed by service at 3 PM. Burial will follow in the Robbins Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Steve Shivers, Tim Shipston, Clint Bowling, Francesco Espinoza, Matthew Tyner, George King, Jeremy Rivenbark, and Jose Espinoza. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Bowling, Jim Burns, Landon Shipston, Grant Shipston, Barry Bowling, and Harry Batson. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Brian Raleigh, and the Reverend Floyd (Buddy) Wescott.
Flowers are welcome, and/or memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Life Care in Bolivia, NC or to Mill Creek Baptist Church, Winnabow, NC in Sandy’s memory.
