I am so saddened to hear of Mike's passing.  I met Mike the last time he began working with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office. I had to pick him up at his apartment in Shallotte, his vehicle wasn't assigned yet.  He was very friendly when we met and became very close coworkers in the Courthouse. From that early meeting until now I've admired Mike. We were both Veterans of Vietnam, he a Marine and I was Air Force. Tracey, I've always admired you as well. I will always remember both of you. You have my condolences and prayers.  God bless!

Tracey I am so sorry for your loss...you are in my thoughts and prayers....no matter how Mike felt anytime I showed at his door he would give me a great big hug and a smile. It was my honor to know Mike and Tracey......RIP kind sir!!

Godspeed my Brother. We shared smiles watching the younger guys at work all the while wondering who was going to make it. I will always remember times we spent sharing tales about our families. You will sorely be missed. Until another time.

I would like to tell the family I'm so sorry for their loss. Mike was a great man. I have had the pleasure of knowing him for as long as I can remember. Him and my dad, Wayne Campbell worked together in Sanford for many years. I use to babysit his son Jimmie when he was little. Then we all ended up in Brunswick County. I saw him every now and then at NHRC. So many memories, he will be missed.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Mike at the courthouse for many years.  He always looked out for me and never failed to be kind to everyone .   I miss his jokes, his encouragement and his wit.   When he retired, he left a space that can never be filled and now the same is true for everyone who knew him.  He will always be part of my best memories with my courthouse family.  His family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers 

My heart goes out to you his family my prayers are with you all. I was honored to know Mike from years ago in law enforcement he was able to teach a hard headed rookie a few good lessons that I was able to carry with me and will never forget.  He truly was one of the guys you wanted on your side and when he checked in route to back you up you somehow knew everything would be okay a true hero was on his way. He could be a tuff nut to crack but once he opened up you had it made and a friend for live. One that would do anything in the world for you. Brother you will be missed by so many and will also always be a hero to many!! Until we ride together again and in the accordance with all those end of shift radio calls 74 - 326 "AMF MY BROTHER"!!

Mike & I worked together in the court house when I was a legal aid attorney & a prosecutor.   He always had my back & I felt safe being in the courtroom with him.   He would crack a joke or make a comment that would alleviate the tension that can permeate courtroom matters.   I was sad to see him retire but enjoyed the twinkle in his eyes when he told us all about what day he was in his countdown.   You are all in my thoughts & prayers.  

Tracy, I'm so glad I was able to reach out before Mike passed. My memories of times spent with him are too many to recount, but one thing was always the same - I always knew he loved me like his own. Mike was never too busy to give me a hug and I can still remember the way he would say my name and give me that smirk, which I would kindly return with a look as well. I especially remember the oyster roasts when I was a little girl. Mike and the other guys would take turns stopping by when they weren't busy with calls - such sweet memories. My family and I will miss Mike dearly.

 I learned alot working with Mike over the many years. He lived his life in the service of others. He will be missed by many.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am sure Mike and Scott are telling some wild stories together today. We loved Mike and he will missed. ❤️

First, I give my sincere condolences to Mike’s family.  Secondly, be assured you are in my thoughts and prayers.  
Mike and I were classmates at what was then, Pitt Technical Institute, Greenville, NC, class of 1973.  I met Mike the first day signing up for classes our first year at Pitt, September, 1971.
 I happened to be me next in line to Mike during a long wait to sign up for a particular class.  He was a little reserved for the first five minutes 😀!  I just had a feeling Mike was either a veteran or former Police Officer.  He wasn’t speaking so I just asked the usual Southern question among young people, 
“hey, how’s it going?”  Mike looked back at me and without a smile, replied, “what am I, a horse?” Caught off guard, I didn’t reply what was on my mind...something told me not too!  Then I caught the first glimpse of a very “flat” smile as he quartered away from me and seemed to stare into space.  I had seen that look before from other Nam vets.  I reached out again with words I can’t recall, but seemed to get his attention I was a “friend to returning vets” (I came to this conclusion in the following wks of our friendship).  Mike, myself, and other like-minded students in the Police Science program hung out together at breaks and lunch for two yrs.  Playing tackle football on campus was a favorite of ours as he recruited guys from other programs to take us on.  He was our quarterback during games... as well as at other times giving advice to us pre-rookies! I could go on but won’t. 
After graduation, I lost contact with Mike.  Then  on 28 Aug 04, I saw Mike in my Mom’s ER room at NHRMC.  Unknown to me, he was aquatinted with a niece of mine, as a business contact with a local emergency product  manufacturing company.  Neither of us knew of our mutual friendship.  He was very caring to my Mom and we recalled some of our “adventures” at Tech.  We  talked several times during Mom’s two week stay before she went HOME!  See ya,  Rob
