Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on May 11, 1939 to Martha and Thomas Morano, Gerald was the youngest of seven children. He served as a private in the U.S. Army. He married Michele W. “Mickie” Smolenski in Poughkeepsie on January 6, 1962. He was employed at IBM Poughkeepsie as a lab technician for 28 years, retiring in 1993. Following retirement, he and Mickie relocated to Calabash, N.C., where they loved to host their many grandchildren during summer vacations. Jerry was an avid bowler and served as a director of the Newburgh-Mid Hudson Bowling Association. In later years, he became an avid golfer. Following Mickie’s passing in June of 2003, Jerry became a valued member of Calabash, N.C. Elks Lodge #2679, serving as Inter Guard and Esteemed Lecturing Knight, as well as the Calabash, N.C. American Legion #503 and Calabash, N.C. VFW #7288 Men’s Auxiliary.
He is survived by three sons, Gerald R. Morano, Jr. of Highland, NY, Stephen J. Morano of Hyde Park, NY and Anthony T. Morano of Highland NY; grandchildren, Christopher Morano and Tyler Hallock of Calabash, NC, Jessica Morano and Courtney Morano of Hyde Park, NY, Vincent A Morano of Walden, NY, Antonia Morano, Diana Morano and Giovanni Morano of Highland, NY; sister-and brother-in-law, Lynette Smolenski and Theodore Smolenski of California; sister-in-law, Janet Morano of Hyde Park, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a time of visitation with the family Thursday, June 22, 2017, from four o’clock in the afternoon to seven o’clock in the evening at Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, 38 Main Street, Highland, New York.
Funeral Mass will be Friday, June 23, 2017, at 10 o’clock in the morning at St Augustine Catholic Church, 55 Main Street, Highland, NY. Burial will follow in the St. Peters Cemetery in Poughkeepsie
