Donald was born on February 19, 1929 in Jersey City, NJ to Gustave and Jean Miller. Donald served in the Marine Corps and was a World War II veteran. He graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Mathematics and Physics in 1953. Donald married Helene Butler on September 13, 1958. He had a long and decorated career working for the N.Y. Telephone Company in New York City. Donald loved competitive bowling and in May of 1960, he joined the short list of individuals that had bowled a perfect, 300 game.
Donald was a longtime resident of Brunswick County and a charter member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ocean Isle Beach. An avid collector of wildlife art, Donald spent his long life appreciating the beauty to be discovered all around us and especially loved the wildlife found throughout North and South Carolina. He spent many years enjoying travels to the mountains of North Carolina and the Charleston/Hilton Head area in South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helene in 2007. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Holland of Shallotte, his son-in-law, Bill Immen of Holden Beach, his three grandchildren, Melissa Immen of Prescott Valley, AZ, Kristen (David) Bradford of Cary, NC, and Brandon (Nancy) Immen of Pineville, NC, as well as six great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at two o'clock in the afternoon at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ocean Isle Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
