Dr. David A. Diehl, age 75, died unexpectedly on August 29th, 2023. David was born on July 3rd, 1948, in York, Pennsylvania where he spent his childhood. He married Michelle Marquis on August 23rd, 1969 with whom he had two children, Wendy Kay Diehl and Ryan Diehl. He earned his bachelors in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics at Lebanon Valley College and continued his education at Penn State University completing his Masters in Theoretical Chemistry. He earned his Ph.D. in Radiation Chemistry at Marquette University in Wisconsin in 1987. He added many significant contributions to the scientific community and served as the President of RadTech International. He valued education and provided scholarship opportunities to many students over the years. In his free time, you could find Dave in his garage working on restoring one of his prized classic GTOs or taking in a Steelers or Penn State football game as a lifelong loyal fan.
After living in Pittsburgh for 28 years, David and Michelle retired in Southport, North Carolina where he led a very active life with many friends, including deep sea fishing with his son in law Jason, participating as a member of the Serendipity Singers, and sporting his singing talent at Karaoke night at the Moose. He was a fervent supporter of wildlife education, conservation, and animal welfare and volunteered at the Brunswick County Animal Shelter and had many animal companions over the years with his wife Michelle.
David will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and a dear friend. He was a seeker of knowledge, a champion of justice, and friend to all earth’s creatures. The world is a better place because Dave was in it.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Mae Weber and Harry Diehl. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Michelle Diehl, his two children Wendy Kay Diehl Hartford and her husband Jason Hartford; Ryan Diehl and his wife Tami Liptak Diehl; and his cherished grandson Graham William Diehl. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
