Charlie M. Long, Sr., 73, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012. Charlie was the son of the late Joseph and Mazie Long of Shallotte, NC. He is preceded by 2 brothers; Vernon and Wilkie Long, and a sister; Mable West. He leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Darlene Beck Long, 3 sons; Mel, Brad, and Joe Long, daughter-in-law Sonia, 2 sisters; Margie Sullivan and JoAnn Maggard, 5 granddaughters; Chelsee, Katlin, Heather, Haley, and Kayla, 4 grandsons; Chance, Jakob, Charlie III, and Patrick, numerous nieces and nephews, and best buddy, Mazie Mae, his Boston terrier.
Charlie was Deputy Sheriff and Chief Deputy Sheriff under Harold Willetts for 8 years, and self-employed in construction work for 35 years before his retirement. Wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Charlie will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered always.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Coble Ward-Smith, Supply Chapel. Graveside services will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Shallotte, NC. Serving as pallbearers will be Rudy Beck, Larry Blanton, J.M. Caton, Garrett Clemmons, Chance Long and Bruce Withrow. The Reverend Al Millikin will officiate the services.
