Roland C. Smith

Roland C. Smith, 86 of Boca Raton, FL passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015. Roland was born June 21, 1928 in Michigan. Roland was a devout Christian, Pastor, avid learner and faithful friend. He earned several degrees including a B.A from Moody Bible Institute, and Northwestern Bible College, a Masters in Theology from the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville KY. A Masters Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland and was a Ph.D. candidate at Johns Hopkins University. He was the Pastor of the Weems Creek Baptist Church in Annapolis Maryland for 37 years. With the Lord’s Grace he grew the church from 55 members to over 500 when he retired.

In Maryland he was active in Southern Baptist organizational life as well as the local Annapolis community.

He retired to Boca Raton in 1994 and served as Chaplain at St Andrews Estates for several years as well as Interim Pastor of First Baptist of Boca Raton. In his later years he served First Baptist Church of Boca Raton as Men’s Bible study leader.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Reid Smith, his son Patrick Smith a Navy Chaplain , daughter in law Tammie Smith and 3 grandsons, James, Brad and Matthew Smith of Swansboro NC.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Boca Raton, 2350 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, FL 33431. The family will receive friends prior to service beginning at 12:30 P.M. Interment will immediately follow at Boca Raton Cemetery.
