Philip Ferrara

Philip Ferrara, 90, died Friday, January 19th, 2018 in his home in Boca Raton, Florida. He leaves his wife of 69 years, Rose Ferrara, Sister Anita and Brother Pete, two daughters Fran Winters and Lynette Petronaci, two son-in-law’s Ed Winters and Ron Petronaci, grandchildren Jenelle, Michael, Jesse, John, Kelly, and six great-grandchildren. Philip was predeceased by his son Carl Ferrara and two brothers Sammy and Louie Ferrara.

Phil was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York the son of Carmelo and Frances Ferrara. In his early years Phil helped support his family by selling vegetables on the street corner. After graduating from New Utrich High School, Phil served in the U.S. Army in 1945 during World War II as a switchboard operator. Upon returning from military service he met his wife Rose at a church dance and later married in 1948. Shortly thereafter he attended upholstery school and worked as the manager for the upholstery department at Gallo Wrought Iron Furniture. He later opened his own business in West Hempstead Long Island where he lived with his wife and three children.

Phil was best remembered by his family as being a talented musician who could play any instrument by ear. From playing the guitar, to the accordion, harmonica and the piano, Phil entertained his family and friends with his music. He loved to sing and was always the life of the party. Phil also had a passion for making home-made pizza, pasta, bread and his family’s favorite N.Y. style cheesecake.
