He is survived by his daughter, Sydney Patterson of Viera, Florida, parents, Daniel and Meredith Patterson of Burlington, North Carolina, his twin brother, Mark Patterson (his wife, Bethany Patterson) of Boynton Beach, Florida, his sister Jill Patterson (her husband, Ruben Peyron Ferrer) of Barcelona, Spain, and his uncle, Henry Patterson, of Reading, Pennsylvania.
Michael was born in Burlington, North Carolina, attended Walter Williams High School, and graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina where he received his degree in Occupational Therapy.
Michael was an occupational therapist who, over the years, transitioned into an executive role in the healthcare industry. In his 40’s, Michael set off on a new adventure in the worldwide cannabis industry.
Michael was an entrepreneurial visionary in the cannabis space. His vision was years ahead of the industry. This can be witnessed by his invention of the “Patterson Pillars” (1. Patient Access 2. Commerce 3. Public Safety) which are the cornerstones of any successful medical cannabis policy worldwide.
Michael was a healthcare executive with over 28 years of experience in the following areas: cannabis/cbd/hemp investing, operations, laws, regulation, compliance, banking, digital assets/ cryptocurrency, management, and international trade, skilled nursing, assisted living, home healthcare, therapy management, laboratory, pharmacy management, and healthcare analytics).
Michael was a subject matter expert in the Global Cannabis/Hemp/CBD Industry with Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG.it) and Guidepoint. He has spoken at numerous conferences including the 2019 UBS Global Consumer and Retail Conference in Boston, and 2018 FBI National Academy convention in Orlando.
Michael was president and executive board member of MGMC-Pharma Group, a private company licensed in 5 African countries to cultivate, process, and distribute EU-GMP Medical Cannabis THC and CBD products internationally. MGMC-Pharma also has offices in Australia, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States.
Michael was an editorial board member of the American Journal of Endocannabinoid Medicine (Ajendomed.com), scientific advisory board member for Akers Biosciences (NASDAQ listed company), advisory board member for Integrated Compliance Solutions (icslv.com), medical cannabis contributing writer for Orlando Medical News Magazine, Florida MD Magazine, and Harvest and Plume Magazine.
Michael was a member of the Board of Directors for the Medical Cannabis Society (medicalcannabissociety.org), Tourette Syndrome Awareness Foundation, board member, chair/CEO of the 2022 World CBD Awards, licensed Occupational Therapist and Nursing Home Administrator.
Michael was podcast host and creator for “The Cannabis Report with Michael Patterson” in which he partnered with his twin brother Mark.
Michael was a special person. Anybody who ever met him would always comment on his positive energy, his enthusiasm, and his ability to help anyone who ever asked. His most precious love of his life was his daughter, Sydney Patterson. Mike was a fantastic father, brother, son and friend. We will miss him dearly.
A memorial gathering for Michael will be held Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Babione Funeral Home, 10060 Calle Comercio Drive, Boca Raton, Florida, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
