Leslie Hall Farrell (formerly Leslie Hall Greene) passed away peacefully on October 24, 2022, at the Delray Medical Center. Her home was in Boca Raton, Florida, where she had been a resident for 44 years. Born November 25, 1941, in Quincy, MA, she was the daughter of Bicknell Hall III and Nancy Black Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Thomas G. Greene, her second husband Peter J. Farrell, and her brother Bicknell Hall IV.
Leslie loved her home and family. She and her husband Tom provided an idyllic childhood for us, their three daughters. We not only learned unconditional love from them, but also were encouraged to reach beyond our limits, test the boundaries of our education, and value thoughtful time together. She played games with us, did crafts and baked with us, organized family time, family meals, and taught us the joy of being together with both immediate and extended family. The values we learned at church were put into practice daily in our home. She supported our activities in and out of school, inspired our interest in world travel, and taught us to appreciate and support the effort required to make a gracious, happy home. We learned from her that “Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the center, though not the boundary, of the affections.” (Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy).
After Tom’s passing, when she was in her forties, Leslie learned to fly small private planes. She also loved to travel, and was able to visit France, Canada, England, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. On a trip to Spain with her great Aunt Marion, she met her second husband Peter whose love of travel and family matched hers. She also had a deep love for gardening and reading, and took great delight in the many species of birds and butterflies that came through her backyard in Florida. Murder mysteries were her favorite genre, especially if they included a dark and handsome mustached detective.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Wendi Lyn Taylor (Tom) of Dunwoody, GA, Nancy Beth Miller (Matt) of Canton, CT, and Rebecca Leslie Lynch (James) of Boca Raton, FL, and her grandchildren, Keith Taylor, Jillian Miller, Toria Miller, Lauren Lynch Brinkley (Cody), Alexander Lynch, Sean Lynch, and one great-grandchild, Abby Brinkley. She is also survived by two sisters, Nancy McCarthy (Joe) and Laurie Thompson (George), and nieces and nephews, Skip Schneider, Bick Hall V, Megan Clem, Kyle Hall, Ellie Malone, Heather McCarthy, and Diana Walton. She is also survived by five step-daughters, Deborah Farrell, Pamela Johnson, Barbara Sabia, Cynthia Farrell, and Nara Farrell, and their children and grandchildren.
In celebration of Leslie’s life, in lieu of sending flowers, her daughters encourage everyone to plant a butterfly-friendly plant in their own garden (Bring Back The Butterflies – Butterfly World), or to donate to The Flying 99s (The Ninety-Nines, Inc., International Organization of Women Pilots(R)) or The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, MA (Christian Science).
The family plans to hold a small, private memorial service.
