John passed away on May 7, 2021 at home in Palmetto, Florida. He was born on June 29, 1932 to John and Margaret Peloso in the Bronx, New York. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Yakovleff Peloso, who he was married to for 67 years.
John is survived by three of his six siblings, Margaret Ryan, Barbara Malanio and Ruth Ruffino.
John and Marge raised eight children, five born in the Bronx and the three youngest born after they moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1958.
The family, including surviving children, Alexis Gaddey, Bernadette King, Father John Peloso, Michael Peloso, Corinne Peloso, Christopher Peloso, Dianne Rutherford (deceased) and Joseph Peloso, attended Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church and Elementary School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale.
John Peloso started working at a young age, most notably on the docks in New York City. His favorite movie was “On the Waterfront” with Marlon Brando, as he could relate to the entire cast and storyline as being close to real life as he remembered working there.
John J Peloso was a Korean War veteran. He served in the US Army from December 1952 to March 1954. He resumed working in New York until moving the family to Florida.
John, “Dad” or “Joe” as he was known in the Queen of Martyrs Parrish, made many lasting acquaintances during his time working as the facilities maintenance supervisor for the church, convent and school properties. Dad came to know all of the priests, nuns, students, teachers and families in the eight years working for Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parrish.
During his early years in Fort Lauderdale, John also worked as a yacht refinisher and was a volunteer firefighter. He started working full time as a firefighter with the city of Oakland Park, Florida in 1968. On his days off from the fire dept., he continued to work on the boats of private individuals and other marinas in the South Florida area.
John and Marge moved to Boca Raton in the early 1990’s. John retired from the Oakland Park Fire Dept. in 1997. The family grew & grew. Dad always had to be busy, working in his garage on some invention or painting, taking mom out to dinner and attending Mass at St. John of Arc Church.
At the time of his death, John was grandfather to Monica Talcott, Matthew Hingle, Jessica Rutherford, Eric Rutherford, Krista Salinas, Vincent Peloso, Christopher Peloso, Jr., Michael Peloso, Cara Hires, Joey Peloso, Dominic Peloso and Victoria Tolan. He was great grandfather to Madisyn MacDonald, McKenzee MacDonald, Jace Talcott, Luke Hingle, Samantha Hingle, Daniel Hires, Emma Hires and Abraham Salinas. God bless and keep you his good and faithful servant.
