John “Moe” William Mahoney, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the age of 75 in Boca Raton, Florida. Moe was born on July 30, 1943 in Bayonne, New Jersey to John and Mary (Sharkey) Mahoney. He graduated from Marist High School in 1960, Seton Hall University with a Bachelor’s in 1964 and Rutgers University with a Master’s in 1974. Moe spent most of his career as a proud teacher and administrator at Bayonne High School from September 1, 1966 until his retirement on September 19, 1998. Moe is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Mary (Dowling) Mahoney, beloved daughter Frances Schulz and husband Brian Schulz, beloved son John Mahoney and wife Stephanie Mahoney, beloved granddaughter Audrey Everly Schulz, sisters Geraldine Mahoney and Claire (Mahoney) Fitzsimmons, brother Rt. Rev. Msgr. Neil Mahoney, and many beloved cousins. Moe is predeceased by his parents, John and Mary (Sharkey) Mahoney, his in-laws, John and Mary (Hayes) Dowling, brother-in-law, George Fitzsimmons, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Moe will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, pop-pop and friend. He was a die-hard Mets fan, music enthusiast and a kind, giving man who loved his life and lived knowing the adversity he faced was just a bump in the road.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Henry’s RC Church, 82. W. 29th St., Bayonne, NJ at 11:00am on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Heart Association or Disabled American Veterans.
