J. Donald Wargo, M.D, 86, of Boca Raton, FL passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015. He was born on November 22, 1928 in Allentown, PA. He attended preparatory school at Valley Forge Military Academy, Wayne PA. His undergraduate work was done at Allegheny College, Meadville, PA where he graduated with a B.S. Degree. After graduate study in cardio-vascular physiology at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Wargo attended Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA where he graduated in 1955 with an M.D.
In 1955 he moved to Miami, FL to complete a general rotating internship and residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital and specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Wargo established his private OB-GYN practice in 1959, with offices in Boca Raton and Delray Beach, FL. His private practice was interrupted to serve his country with the US Army Medical Corps as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the American Hospital in Paris, France from 1960-62. He was a beloved local physician who retired from private practice in 1994.
In January 1967 he became one of 25 founding members of the Medical Staff of Boca Raton Regional (Community) Hospital. He was instrumental in developing the by-laws for the hospital medical staff and served as President of the Medical Staff from 1969 to 1971. He was Chief of Surgery from 1975 to 1977, and served on the hospital’s Board of Trustees from 1972 to 1997. Dr. Wargo also served on the Board of Trustees of Lynn University (College of Boca Raton) from 1987-2008.
Dr. Wargo loved and enjoyed spending time with family and was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.
Surviving Donald are his wife Joan whom he married May 31, 1958, his sons, Michael Eric Wargo of Deerfield Beach, and John Michael Wargo of Boca Raton, 3 Grandchildren, Michael Eric Wargo II of Boynton Beach, Ashley Sue Wargo of Austin, TX, and Matthew Thomas Wargo of Boca Raton.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Babione Kraeer Funeral Home, 1100 North Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33432. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M on Friday, September 25, 2015 at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3510 S Ocean Blvd, Highland Beach, FL 33487.
