Eileen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and is survived by her; son, David, daughters, Diane and Wendy, and their spouses Leidy, Bob, and Kent; grandsons Matthew and Eric, granddaughters Natasha and Geraldine, and her faithful dog and companion, Fuji.
Eileen grew up in Cambria Heights, Kings County, NY. She had a sister and four brothers and was brought up in a strict Catholic household. This inspired her rebellious side and Eileen blossomed in her early twenties. She became an excellent marksman, joined the camping club, and met the love of her life, Richard, from a Jewish household. They got married at Richard’s cousin’s house and it was a very private affair. They moved into a small flat in Coney Island and began to raise a family which consisted of dogs, cats, and most importantly, their three children David, Diane, and Wendy. Their relationship was powerful; as soul mates, they shared over sixty-one years of love letters with each other. Through their love, their family blossomed into the flower of their lives.
Eileen moved a lot living in NY, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Florida. She orchestrated regular summer trips with the family to Yellowstone National Park to spend time in nature with her brother Frank's family. Her devotion to nature, and birds, helping the American Indians, and generosity to those in need defined her life as one of service. She was a teacher in her profession life and truly allowed her heart to shine every day. Her love of others, and willingness to help, truly defined the beautiful person she was. She read to those that could no longer read, worked with her husband to beautify the West Lakes community they lived in, and spent time with all the grandchildren providing guidance, love, and even tutoring. She was truly a woman of principle and lived the spirit of the truth, treating others as she wished them to treat her.
Eileen loved adventure. She and Richard scuba-dived, climbed mountains, traveled to Japan and Europe, and were always up for something new. Where ever they went they sought out music and art. Eileen loved symphonies, opera, and theatre. She had a special appreciation for Japanese culture and the abundant nature of Costa Rica.
It is with heavy hearts that we share this post with you; it can never do justice to the light she emitted in her life. It is our obligation to keep her spirit, beautiful smile, and twinkling eyes alive as we move into tomorrow and beyond.
