Diana was born in the Bronx, New York. She was the oldest daughter of Olga Fucci (mother, deceased) and Anthony Lupo (father, deceased). Her younger sister was born 14 months later, Lorraine. Their mother stayed home to care for them while their father worked for Stella D'oro cookies and they moved to several states throughout their childhood including New York, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania. They enjoyed going to summer homes near the beach. Diana was a graduate of Ridley High School in Folsom, Pennsylvania.
Diana worked in the insurance industry and married Samuel F. May, JR. and moved to Florida in 1979. They settled in Hollywood where she had her first child, a son, Samuel F. May, III in 1980. Then in 1982, they moved to Boca Raton, FL. Her son was the love of her life and she valued being a mother and devoted her life to it. She was then blessed with a daughter in 1987 whom she named Alexzandria. She also became a proud dog grandma to Cheenie in 2013.
Diana was an avid romance novel reader, loved the Washington Capitals hockey team (her favorite player is Alexander Ovechkin), loved the New York Yankees, Florida Gators football, Raiders (when they were in Oakland, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas) football, rock music spanning the decades (like Led Zeppelin), going on cruises and vacations with her children (and sometimes with her granddogger), keeping up to date with news and current events, and loved watching TV (including HGTV, Food Network, The Incredible Dr. Pol Vet show, Critter Fixers, and The Hallmark Channel movies).
Diana was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Rectal Cancer in September 2021. Diana immediately began chemotherapy to fight this disease with her children by her side. She then took chemotherapy pills at home for about a year at which point scans revealed her main tumor had grown and she was a candidate for radiation therapy. She went through radiation December 2022 to January 2023. Scans revealed not much improvement and she was recommended for a new course of chemotherapy. With her daughter by her side at each treatment, she vowed to keep fighting. She began physical therapy to improve her mobility and this afforded her much deserved independence in her final months at home. At her follow-up doctors appointment on July 14th, scan results showed her cancer had aggressively spread throughout her body and bone. She began hospice at home and was cared for with grace and dignity by her family until her last breath on Tuesday, July 25 at 7:54am. May she rest in peace free from pain and suffering. We will all be thinking about her in our minds and hearts everyday.
Diana is survived by her son, Samuel F. May, III, her daughter, Alexzandria Denise May, Samuel F. May, JR., her ex-husband, Lorraine Shoemaker (sister) and her children Christin (niece) and Vincent (nephew), Francis P. May (brother-in-law), John J.
