While it is possible to receive good counsel from a wide circle of family and friends, few could do it with the skill and aptitude of Anne Lucy Malavé. She had a true talent for helping others reach their full potential and brought out the best in those who sought her help. Anne was a forward-looking woman whose personality was filled with empathy toward everyone she met. She could be quiet and reserved, but her style of communication was authentic and direct. An excellent communicator, Anne was a master at using imagery when she explained her ideas and concepts. She seemed to have an endless supply of innovative concepts and strategies for how to help those around her. Her sensitivity, kindness and generous attitude made her a wonderful friend for all who knew her.
From the time she was born on June 24, 1939, Anne showed a deep concern for others. She was a giving and caring individual, ethical and full of integrity and warmth. Her parents were Luis Santiago and Maxima Flores. Anne was raised in New York, New York.
Because fellowship was so important to her, Anne promoted harmony with her siblings. She was raised with four siblings. She had Jose Ayala, Freddie Santiago, Yolanda Santiago and Luis Santiago (deceased). Anne was something of the family diplomat. She helped to settle problems and conflicts and kept the family running smoothly. She also was a jokester and loved to make her family and friends laugh.
As a young girl, Anne interacted well with other children. She was helpful. She was an independent person who had a vivid imagination. She was an active child, who took part in climbing trees and bicycle riding.
A good student who was enthusiastic about learning, Anne was considered by many to be a high achiever. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite courses and teachers. Her favorite class in high school was English. After High School she earned her Insurance License.
While growing up, one of her best friends was Nelly. Later in life, she became friends with Miriam Stern, Angela Ruiz and Milagros Rivera.
All who knew her would agree that there was a certain kind of magic in how Anne was able to bond with her children. While she could be a firm disciplinarian, she could also fill the role of being a collaborator with her kids. Anne was always a mentor who helped her family reach its full potential.
Anne could be a perfectionist at times, but wasn’t one to seek out personal recognitions. She possessed excellent insight and a strong ability to meet schedules. She was an innovator who worked well independently, and she enjoyed the task of meeting a constant array of challenges. Her primary occupation was an Administrator of Processing and Medical Billing. She was employed for 27 years at Lutheran Medical Center.
Anne was a Marine cadet when she was young.
Anne and Elvin L. Malavé exchanged vows in Staten Island, New York on July 23, 2004. Anne was blessed with a new family in addition to her own to love, nurture and encourage.
Anne enjoyed going to casinos, whether she won (she was usually lucky) or not, she had a good time. She would go often with her husband and Eddie and Vickey Malavé.
Anne was a woman with clear convictions and high principles, and her faith was important to her. She was an inspiration to many people who recognized her sense of commitment and esteem for others. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Parish in Staten Island.
Anne possessed strong skills in long-range planning and project completion, a quality that positively influenced her travel and vacation planning. Favorite vacations included travel to Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Anne was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of Anne's favorites was Anne had two pets, Tornado and Pinkey, both cats. They were best friends for ten years.
As someone who treasured harmony and quiet, Anne accepted retirement and made the most of it. That day finally came in November 1, 2009, and Anne was well prepared. Her new life involved relocating to Delray Beach, Florida.
Anne passed away on August 1, 2011 at her home in Delray Beach. Anne passed away from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. She is survived by her husband Elvin, daughter Anne Marie, stepdaughter Edith, grandchildren Katelynn, Kellyanne, Angel, Jacqueline, Bianca, Christopher, great-grandchildren Brianna, Abigal, Madison and Alexia, and nephews Jose Antonio and Alex Ayala. Services were held at Kraeer Funeral Home in Boca Raton, Florida.
Though she could be a private person at times, Anne was always able and willing to give of herself. She was so in tune with others that she often seemed able to read their minds. Anne carried with her an almost mystical sense of life. She was a person who was highly original in her thinking and used metaphors and symbols to describe many aspects of her life. A poetic, intuitive “teacher”, Anne Lucy Malavé shared herself freely and family and friends will remember Anne for the strength of her convictions.
