Robert L. Layman of Collegeville passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 14, 2020. He was 72 years old. Born July 7, 1947 in Norristown, he was the son of the late Marshall and Adelaide (nee Eisenberger) Layman, and the beloved husband of Patricia A. Layman (nee DeFusco).
He was a 1965 graduate of Norristown High School and finished his studies in electrical engineering from Temple University. As a proud Marine, he felt a special bond with his fellow servicemen and women. He exemplified the Corps’s values of honor, courage, and commitment, and carried them into all facets of his life. After a lengthy career with Verizon, he spent most of his time helping out his family and friends however he could. In his spare time he was an avid golfer, worked on his classic Corvette, and loved shooting pool with his loved ones. He was always the life of the party; he wouldn’t rest until everyone had a smile on their face. If nothing else, he will always be remembered for his strong handshake.
Predeceased by both parents and his brother, Richard Layman, Robert is survived by his wife of 40 yrs, Patricia, two sons, Justin (Kimberly) and Ryan (Sarina), three grandchildren, Owen, Nora, and Casey; and brother Paul Layman. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews. Both friends and family will miss Robert.
Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will be held privately. Friends and family may join us at his Internment on Saturday, September 19th at the Valley Forge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Robert may be made to the Veteran's charity of your choice.
