William (Wig) Frye passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. He was a native of Bean Blossom Township and was born on March 30, 1927. His parents, Wretha and Alva Frye, raised Wig, his two brothers (Alva and Jack), and four sisters (Alvina, Linda, Donna, and Wilma) in the Stinesville community during the Great Depression.
Wig attended Stinesville School and played on the basketball team. After finishing his junior year in high school, Wig was drafted into the Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Panama Canal and was scheduled to re-locate to a position in Japan when the war ended. He returned after the war and finished his senior year in high school.
After graduation, Wig married the former Wanda Kale who also was raised in the Bean Blossom Township. Wig and Wanda enjoyed 65 years of marriage prior to Wanda’s death in January of 2013. They lived on their family farm outside of Stinesville for over 60 years; and, he continued living there until the time of his death.
Wig worked at the Bloomington RCA plant for 36 years and retired at the age of 57. Over the years, he enjoyed farming, gardening, antiquing, making walking canes, refurbishing wood furniture, attending sporting events (often watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play), visiting with neighbors, and raising his family.
Wig was a member of the Mt Pleasant Christian Church. He had three daughters: Brenda Adams (Tim) and Vickie Frye, both of this community and Sabrina Frye (deceased); and a son Bill Frye (Brenda) of Greenwood, IN. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Deremiah Frye Mortuary, 700 West Gourley Pike, Bloomington, IN on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the church. The funeral service will be held at Mt Pleasant Christian Church, 1391 W. Burma Road, Gosport, IN on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Internment with military honors will follow at Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery.
