Viola May, age 95, of Bloomington, died Wednesday morning at Garden Villa in Bloomington. Born August 10, 1922 in Richlands, Virginia, she was the daughter of William Wesley and Mariena Elizabeth (Byrd) Steele. Viola retired as a secretary at the Indian University School of Business Placement Office. She had formerly worked at R.C.A. Viola loved working both jigsaw and crossword puzzles and she was an avid reader. She formerly attended Clear Creek Christian Church and Woodhaven Christian Church.
She is survived by her two daughters, Teresa May, of Bloomington and Linda Smith, of Ellettsville; one brother, Roger Steele, of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Brad (Jenny) Smith, of Greensburg and Melanie (C.J.) Craig, of Ellettsville and three great-grandchildren, Bobby Teters, Bryce Craig and Benjamin Craig.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roger Lee May, to whom she was married on May 11, 1946 in Bloomington and several brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Deremiah-Frye Mortuary; 700 W. Gourley Pike. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be given to the charity of their choice.
