Robert Evans Cambridge

Robert “Bob” Evans Cambridge was born to the late Robert and Evelyn Cambridge on March 9, 1943 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Later, Bob’s family moved to Indianapolis. In 1961, he graduated from Broad Ripple High School. From 1961-1966, Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corp. After service, Bob earned a BS in education (Ball State University), an MS in School Administration (Butler University) and a Doctor of Jurisprudence with Honors (Indiana University). Bob became an independent counsel and collective bargaining facilitator for various Indiana school systems, including MSD of Washington Township, MSD of Decatur Township, River Forest Community School Corporation and the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC). While at MCCSC, Bob developed an impasse resolution procedure utilized across the state. During the last decade of Bob’s career, he provided many innovative approaches to district finance saving hundreds of teachers’ jobs. Bob was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

Bob is survived by his wife, Rebecca Wilson Cambridge of fifteen years and his children. His sons are Darren Robert Cambridge (Kara Gotch) of Washington D.C, Andy Nathan Cambridge (Jenna Anderson) of Pasadena, California both sons of Barbara Larson Cambridge, Ryan Paul Cambridge (Kristen) and Matthew Dale Cambridge (Monica) of Indianapolis both sons of Pam Catron O’Mara. Grand children include Oliver Cambridge, Maxwell Cambridge, Taylor Mae Cambridge and Calvin Ryan Cambridge. He was preceded in death by his only sister, Nancylee Buckley.

Bob had multiple interests besides reading voraciously about the revolutionary war. He could work with flowers and loved to run, mow grass, and travel with Rebecca. While in high school and undergrad, Bob worked at Indianapolis’s McNamara Florists to earn spending money. Skills learned there enabled Bob to assist with Rebecca’s bouquet for their December 22, 2001 wedding. While in high school, Bob earned multiple awards for running. These included the Times All Sports Trophy, a senior win at the 440 Howe Meet and setting the state track record for the two mile event relay. Until Bob’s health prohibited participation, he continued to run in the annual Indianapolis Mini Marathon, a tradition his sons continue in his honor. Always an innovator when mowing grass, Bob had been known to hook multiple push mowers to his riding mower. At this time, it is not clear to whom Bob has left his beloved lawnmowers. After marrying Rebecca, traveling became a shared adventure for them. Starting small and gradually increasing their scope, the two enjoyed Gulf Shores, New Orleans, Belize, Bermuda, and French Polynesia.

Bob was known best for being a loving father. He loved his sons dearly, supported them and never missed one of their events. Bob will be remembered for his great sense of humor, unconditional support and loyalty to those he loved.

At Bob’s request, his brain has been donated to the Mayo Clinic, Atypical Parkinson’s Brain Donation Network. Bob would be honored by your donation to support their research on Parkinson’s Plus or to the Monroe County YMCA.

There will be an evening celebration of life on Tuesday, October 25th, 2016 from 5:30 until 7:30 pm at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. 3rd Street, Bloomington, Indiana. Bob’s cremated remains will be held until he can be interred with Rebecca. Their interment will be at Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne Indiana.
