Mona Dean Robinson 88, born Mona Lynnea Dean in Bridgeport, IL to Silas G. Dean and Martha Richardson Dean. Mona grew up in Bridgeport, and graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1946. She had a life-long love of art and literature and majored in Art at the University of Illinois, graduating in 1950. She joined the Delta Zeta sorority while at U. of I., and remains an active alumnus serving in many positions.
Mona married her high school sweetheart, John C. Robinson, a WW II Navy Veteran and electronics engineer, on August 12th, 1950. Mona gave birth to three sons, and later sought a certification as a substitute art teacher, serving in the Bloomington school system for several years.
In addition to Delta Zeta Alumnae, Mona belonged to American Society of Arts and Letters and Beta Sigma Phi. She also served as one of the founding officers of the East Side Neighborhood Association.
Mona was a self-taught genealogist and wrote a weekly genealogy column called “Family Tree Leaves” for the Bloomington Sunday Herald Times for 36 years. She had a genealogical help book published called “Who’s Your Hoosier Ancestor?” in 1992.
Mrs. Robinson is survived by her husband, John C. Robinson; three sons, Larry C. Robinson (Christine), Bruce A. Robinson, all of Bloomington, IN and Mark D. Robinson (Susan Havlish) of Madison, TN.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 East Third Street, with a eulogy being given at 6:00 PM. A Grave Side Service will be held on Saturday, March 19th at 2:00 PM CST in Sumner Cemetery, Sumner, IL.
