Loretta Marie “Rita” DeVries,75, of Bloomington, IN passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017. She was born January 28, 1942 in Bloomington, IN the daughter of Helen Burris and the late Ralph Hardin.
Rita put herself through Vincennes University Nursing School and graduated with honors. She retired after over 30 years from Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital where she was a Neo-Natal Nurse. She received numerous awards for her nurturing and compassionate care of babies.
Rita enjoyed Led Zeppelin and attended many of their concerts in different locations in the United States and Europe. Besides Rock and Roll she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, working on her house, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
Rita is survived by her three sons, Tracy (Jan) Taylor, Todd (Pam) Taylor, and William (Jennifer) DeVries; a daughter, Trudy Hamilton; her mother, Helen Burris; six siblings, Kay (Charlie Nelson) Kelly, Linda Autry, Barbara Sluss, Kenny (Jane) Hardin, Wanda (Buck) Garrison, and Dale (Jenny) Hardin; thirteen grandchildren; her two beloved cats, Sam and Pepper; and many other beloved family members.
Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel, officiated by Rev. Bruce Kelly. Interment will follow at Garrison Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel, 700 W. Gourley Pike.
