Larry, as everyone knew him, personified the best characteristics of a MidWestern man. He was born in Linton, Indiana, and raised on the farm near Hymera, Indiana, that is still a part of his family. He applied to his studies the work ethic instilled in him by his father and mother, graduating from Hymera High School in 1965 and graduating with a business degree from Indiana State University in 1969. He carried that same work ethic forward in his career as a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner. Launching his career at Price Waterhouse in Indianapolis in 1969, he moved with his young family to Bloomington in the autumn of 1975 and became part of the professional community through his work with Guy Wiley Jr. & Company. In the mid-1980s he opened his own accounting firm and subsequently became a partner at George S. Olive & Company (later merged with BKD, LLP). He retired from his partnership at BKD in 2009 and worked till the autumn of 2017 as Director of the Family Office at CarDon & Associates. He was a member of the AICPA, Indiana CPA Society, Hoosier Hills Estate Planning Council and the Institute of Management Accountants.
In the past six years, his favorite activity outside of his career was doting on his grandchildren. In their presence, it was rare that he did not have a smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Buckingham Davis, daughter Bethany Davis Wuensch, son-in-law Rurik Wuensch, grandson Alexander and granddaughter Emma, all of Bloomington, Indiana. He is also survived by his son, Chad Davis of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother, Donald and his wife Debbie Davis of Farmersburg, Indiana; sister Nancy Hutchison of Terre Haute, Indiana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Homer Davis and his mother Virginia Rose (Bicknell) Davis Bolinger.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 1:00 p.m. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. Friends may visit the family prior to the service from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Larry’s name to the Bloomington Community Foundation or to the Bloomington Animal Shelter.
