Kenneth H. Smith, 85, of Bloomington died in his home with his family at his side on Tuesday August 2, 2016. He was born on May 10, 1931 in Buffalo, New York to Milne Armstrong Smith and Marree Nancy Clayton Smith. He was a retired Electronic Switching Supervisor for the former Indiana Bell Telephone Company. On September 7, 1952 Kenneth married the former Geraldine Rae Browning and she survives.
Other survivors include his four children, LaDonna Meyer and husband Michael of Beach Park, IL, Lois Clark and husband Bruce of Bloomington, Lindsey Smith of Bloomington and Lisa Smith and husband Lancha of Gosport; a sister Kathryn Dohman and husband Robert of Cumming, GA; nine grandchildren, Bradley Meyer, Aaron Meyer, Wesley Parks, Ashley Parks, Kimberley Meadows and husband Jeremy, Riley Parks, Raegan Smith, Cody Smith and wife Becca and Austin Smith; and one great granddaughter, Emily Rose Bartlett. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Eva Smith.
Memberships include Arlington United Methodist Church, American Legion Burton Woolery Post #18, the Telephone Pioneers, and was a former member of the Free and Accepted Masons. Kenneth was the past Chief of the Monroe County Auxiliary Police he had been an instructor at the Police Academy, he was a 1949 graduate of Linton Stockton High School and was a U.S. Navy Seabee during the Korean War.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday August 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM in Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, 700 W Gourley Pike, with Pastor Jim Roach Officiating; burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Military Honors given by the Monroe County Honor Guard. Visitation is scheduled for Friday August 5, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to services in the funeral home.
