Joy Ellen Ayers

Joy Ellen Higar Ayers, 88, of Bloomington passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 in I.U. Health Hospice House. She was born May 10, 1933 in Linton to Hughy Higar and Mildred Raines Higar. She was retired as a Floral Associate at Kroger.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Adams of Owensburg and Jo Ella Ayers of Tracy City, TN; two sons, John (Shirley) Ayers of Gwinner, ND and Robert Ayers of Bloomington; a sister, Delores Gambill of Connersville; several grandchildren; a few great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Audrey Goodman; and three brothers, William, Lee and George Higar.

Joy had been very involved in the Boy Scouts of America where she had earned the Silver Fawn Award; she had worked in the Boy Scout Office, Schmaltz’s Department Store selling Boy Scout Uniforms, she had been the manager of a Dollar General Store and had been a Floral Associate at Kroger.

No services are planned at this time, arrangements are under the direction of Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel.
