Obituary of John Henry Reeves
John Henry Reeves, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2023 at Pinnacle Peak Assisted Living in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born on March 7, 1931 in Bloomington, IN to John and Marie (Van Buskirk) Reeves. He married Marjorie Jane Dike on May 25th, 1957, in Evansville, IN at a Nazarene Church. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1949, Olivet Nazarene College in 1957, master's degree in education from IU in 1968. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in England. John taught Language Arts at Martin Luther King Upper Grade Center for several years. Then he taught fourth grade at Mark Twain School in Kankakee, Illinois. After he retired in 1992, he moved to Anderson, South Carolina. He was an active member of the Boulevard Church, where he served as an elder and attended the Men's Bible Study. He also served on the Homeowner's Association of his neighborhood. He enjoyed pheasant and duck hunting with his yellow labrador retriever. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and reading. John is survived by his son, Craig (Mary Jo) Reeves of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter, Lisa Lempke, (Dan) of Cornville, Arizona; two brothers, Paul Reeves of Bloomington, IN; Jim Reeves of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Joanne Hayes, of Santa Claus, IN; sister in law, Elva Reeves, of Bethany, Oklahoma. Three granddaughters; Sarah Brinkley; Erika Peterson; and Julie Anderson; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, and sister, Joyce MacMillan, and two brothers; Chester and Ben. John was Born again as a teenager, later baptized in the river near his home. He was a devoted husband and father who taught his children the value of hard work, honesty and respect for others. He was faithful to take his family to the Lord's house for worship and preaching of the Bible each Sunday and Wednesday. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. We do not grieve as those who have no hope, for we know we will see him again. Graveside service will be held at Mt. Gilead in Bloomington, IN on May 10th at 10am.
