John “J.B.” Robinson, age 66, of Bloomington, died Friday afternoon at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Born February 21, 1947, in Bloomington, he was the son of Irvin Robinson, and Bob and Farrell (Siscoe) Smith. He was proud to be a part of the Bloomington community all his life and to be the owner and operator of J.B.’s Salvage since 1984. Prior to 1984, he was the owner and operator of Bloomington Auto Parts. In addition to his business, he was the owner of a late model stock car racing team with his son, Kent, as the driver. He and his entire family traveled across the country and raced at various racetracks. He graduated from Bloomington High School and Lincoln Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Engineering. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the Murat Shrine and Jesters along with other clubs and organizations.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 32 years, Becky (Lane) Robinson; daughter and son-in-law, Bethany and Scott Stevens; son, Kent Robinson; grandson, Will Stevens; one brother and sister-in-law; Charles and Rita Robinson; and proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
J.B. was a kind man who never met a stranger. He was a hard working, generous man who supported many local groups, organizations and charities. J.B. had a love for life and lived by the motto “work hard, play hard.” He enjoyed various hobbies but loved nothing more than spending time with his friends and family.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, May 1 from 2 to 9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home in Bloomington and again on Thursday from 12 noon to 3 p.m. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday and the funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the funeral home. Private family burial will follow the funeral service.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to the Shriners Hospital or to the family for local animal rescue organizations.
