Janet Lee May, age 84, of Bloomington, died Tuesday (02/11/19) at her residence. Born July 6, 1935 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Herbert Edwin and Dorothy Lucille (Stalcup) Routen. Janet graduated from Bloomington High School and attended Indiana University. She worked as an administrative assistant for three different Speakers of the House of the State of Indiana, Kermit Burrous, J. Roberts Dailey and Paul Mannweiler as well as working for Lt. Gov. Robert Orr. She loved to travel and being with family. Janet was a founding member and formerly attended Christ United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Deanna Lynn Spangle, of Bloomington; two sons, William Dean May, of Bloomington and Douglas May, of Marble Head, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Kc Spangle, Janet Lynn Gibson, William Nathaniel May and Edith Magnolia “Edie” May; three great-grandchildren, Thomas Lee Parker Gibson, Kevin Andrew Gibson and Anika Nicole Gibson and her long-time friend and companion, Gene Davis, of Bloomington.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Thomas May.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (02/22) at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. with Pastor Jim Roach officiating. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Friday (02/21) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
