Jack Funkhouser Sr., 92, of Bloomington passed away in Meadowood on January 15, 2017. He was the son of Glen and Sadie (Riggs) Funkhouser, born on April 14, 1924 in Bloomington. He grew up on his parent’s farm just west of the Monroe County Airport.
Jack was an excavating contractor and real estate developer among other things over his 92 years.
Jack is survived by his five children: Stephen Funkhouser of Columbus, IN, Peggy Salinas of Bloomington, Dixie Baker of Bloomington, Jack Funkhouser, Jr., of Littleton, CO, Anna Marie Hewitt of Louisville, KY, 10 grandchildren: Brad Funkhouser of Greenwood, IN, Sarah VanPelt of Columbus, IN, Reina Salinas Teater of Fishers, IN, Caleb Funkhouser of N. Carolina, Jacob Funkhouser of Denver, CO, Anna Nicole Funkhouser the US Marine Corps, Jennifer Hewitt Hoke of Bloomington, Jessica Hewitt of Bloomington, Patrick Swan of Bloomington, Khylie Baker of Bloomington, 9 great-grandchildren: Meagan VanPelt of Indianapolis, IN, Gavin VanPelt of Columbus, IN., Lucas Teater of Fishers, IN, Eli Teater of Fishers, IN, Cassius Hoke of Bloomington, Gage Hoke of Bloomington, Emory Funkhouser of N. Carolina, Jack Funkhouser III of N. Carolina and Amelia Funkhouser of Denver, CO.
He is also survived by his sister Mid Johnson of Bloomington and his brother Don Funkhouser of Bloomington.
Jack was preceded in death by one child who died at birth: Marilyn Funkhouser, two brothers: Lonnie Funkhouser and Bob Funkhouser and his sister: Betty Hamm, his first and second wives: Erma Wilson Funkhouser in 1955 and Annabelle Jessup Funkhouser in 1981.
Visitation for Jack will be on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401. A graveside service will be held in Clear Creek Cemetery on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 1 p.m.
