Harriet Davis Thomas, 82, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2014. She was born on September 15, 1932 the fourth of eleven children born to Eddie and Louise (Peacock) Davis in Wrightsville, Georgia.
Harriet was employed for 30 years at Indiana University most recently as the Director of Equal Employment Opportunity for Construction and Compliance. Harriet enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, spending time with family and exercising with all of her friends at Silver Sneakers.
She accepted Christ at a young age and was a faithful and active member of Second Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher and member of Missionary Circle Number 1.
Preceded in death by sisters Ruth Jones, Bessie Gomes , Lois Moorman, and brothers Howard Davis and Eddie Lamar Davis. She leaves to mourn loving husband Kenneth of fifty-eight years and devoted daughters Toni (Kevin) Pitts, Denise Washington; sisters Eddie Mae Linder, Annette Bailey, brothers Joe L. (Maggie) Davis, Dr. W. Bob (Sylvia) Davis, and John W. (Marie) Davis. Grandsons Daene, and Dilon Washington and granddaughters Deven Washington and Shelby Pitts and great granddaughters Kayla, Ma-Layiah and great grandson Isaiah Washington. Nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention
Harriet was greatly loved by family and friends will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation for Harriet will be held at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home at 4150 E. Third Street, Bloomington, Indiana on Friday, September 26th from 10:00 a.m. – 12 noon. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
