Obituary of Ernestine Brown Winters
When he calls me, I‘ll be somewhere listening for my name. On Thursday morning at her residence surrounded by her loving family, Ernestine heard the call and obediently answered and left to be with her Lord and Savior . Born March 27, 1935 in Vicksburg, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Richard and Mary (Kelly) Brown. Ernestine retired from R.C.A. after 30+ years of service and later worked as a teacher’s aide at Broadview Elementary. She did volunteer work at the Opportunity House with Christian Women United. She was a long time and active member of the Second Baptist Church where she did Missionary work and served on the Usher Board, taught Sunday School and Bible study in the pastor’s absence. . She was always active in missions, serving as President of the Indiana Missionary Baptist State Convention Women’s Home and Foreign Auxiliary, the Southeastern District Missionary Convention and the National Missionary Convention. She was a member of Monroe County Church Women! United. In addition to her love of being a Christian servant she loved to cook for family and friends, raise a garden and attend sporting events. She leaves to cherish her memory her children; Jacqueline Coleman, Larry (Lisa Franz) Winters, Richard (Margo) Winters, Jeff (Debbie) Winters, Gertrude Winters, James Booker, Johnny Winters and Fred Winters, all of Bloomington; siblings, Robert (Lorene) Brown, of Vicksburg, MS, Fred Brown, Jackson, MS, Lola Debro, Bloomington, Deloris Brandon, Vicksburg, MS and Kennedy Brown, Bloomington; thirteen grandchildren, Anthony Webb, Josh Winters, Sara Winters, Kayla Winters, Natasha Winters, Clairessa Winters, Phillip Winters, Miranda Capps (Robert) Blunk, Tinisha Deal, James Chambers, Candice Winters, Jessica Braxton and Johnathon Winters and nine great grandchildren, Eli Winters, Kahlia Braxton, Jeniyah Winters, Kamari Winters, Payton Winters, Zolyssa Chambers, Zamarah Chambers, Keyano Chambers and Keyandre Chambers. She also has a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and an extended church family. Ernestine was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, A.C. Brown. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Second Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Bruce Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Second Baptist Church.
