Chris Stark, Jr. age 91, of Bloomington, passed away, Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the Brickyard Community Care Center in Bloomington. Born January 8, 1932 in El Dorado, Kansas, he was the son of Chris and Maudie Ann (Younger) Stark. Chris graduated from El Dorado High School in 1951, attended junior college and graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor degree in Geology. While in high school and college he worked for the Kirby Funeral Home in El Dorado. Chris served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. Chris retired as a Geophysicist where he had worked for Cities Service Oil Co. and Oxy Petroleum. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed reading and photography. He was a member of the Arlington United Methodist Church and a life member of the Bloomington V.F.W. and American Legion Posts. He married his loving wife, Wanda, on August 29, 1958.
Chris is survived by his step-daughter, Rhonda (Tim) Adams, of Terre Haute, Indiana; four grandchildren, Matthew (Kellie) Adams, Holly (Brett) Comer, Levi (Becky) Adams and Luke (Kacie) Adams; seven great-grandchildren, Frances Adams, Micah Comer, Lydia Comer, Madison Adams, Kaden Adams, Noah Adams and Jonah Adams and three sisters-in-law, Joan Vernon, JoAnn Vernon and Evelyn Vernon, all of Bloomington along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wanda Sue (Vernon) Stark on June 5, 2021, one great-grandson, Arthur Adams and two sisters, Mildred Stark Patterson and Ruth Stark Bakstran.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Arlington United Methodist Church with Rev. Rose Sparks officiating where the Monroe County Veterans Honor Guard will begin the service with military honors. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.
