Billy S. Winkle, age 76, of Unionville, died Tuesday at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital while vacationing in Florida. Born January 23, 1935 in Yorktown, Indiana, he was the son of Steve and Emza (Crossen) Winkle. He retired from General Motors, Delco-Remy Division in Anderson. He loved to golf at Cascades Golf Course and enjoyed boating on Lake Lemon with his family and friends. He formerly loved to build street rods. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville, Indiana.
He is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Jason and Kirsten Winkle, of Terre Haute, Indiana, Steven Winkle, of Unionville and Jeff and Jen Winkle, of South Bend, Indiana and one daughter, Lisa Louw, of Africa; his brother and his wife, Ron and Diane Winkle, of Anderson, Indiana and five grandchildren, Courtney Winkle, Maren Winkle, Sophia Winkle, Edward Winkle and Cayden Varno. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Ann (Silnes) Winkle on November 3, 2004.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father Eric Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in northern Monroe County. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Day Funeral Home in Bloomington.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to help battle breast cancer.
