Betty Jean Frye Fleener, 94, of Bloomington passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 in Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community in Franklin. She was born June 4, 1928 in Buck Creek, Greene County, Indiana to Elza Frye and Geneva Carrico Frye. In 1946 she married Harry F. Fleener and they spent 58 years together until his death in 2005. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her seven children, Harry (Carol) Fleener, Jr. of Chipley, Florida, Richard F. Fleener of Martinsville, Judy (Randy) Byers of Martinsville, Vicki (Mike) Shepherd of Bowling Green, Indiana, John (Jane Ann) Fleener of Chandler, Indiana, Tami (Roger) Weddle of Bloomington and Carla (Allen) Schwartz of Franklin; 21 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Fleener, Sr.; and a daughter in law, Diana Fleener.
Betty was a long time member of Little Union Baptist Church, she enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, being outside, traveling, doing puzzles and her dogs, especially Dachshunds. She and Harry lived in Greenwood for 33 years, they were members of the Mount Auburn United Methodist Church, In 1983 they moved back to Bloomington and became a member of the Little Union Baptist Church. They bought an RV and wandered the U.S. for 12 years.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 2:00 PM in Little Union Baptist Church, 5511 N Brummetts Creek Rd, with Pastor Grant Quimby officiating, burial will follow in Little Union Cemetery. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Wednesday prior to services from 12:00 – 2:00 PM in the church.
