Alissa Joan Quick

Alissa Joan Quick, 52, of Bloomington, Indiana, died of natural causes on August 20, 2022, at home. Alissa was born on April 2, 1970, in Fargo, North Dakota and is the oldest of three girls. She is survived by her mother, Rosemary Davenport and stepfather, Christopher John Reid of Fort Collins, Colorado, her stepmother Jackie Panuska and family, her sisters Kathryn Ann Quick Fairbank (Daniel) and Jeanette Simone Quick, and four nieces and nephews, Cassandra, Nathan, Kayden, and Hunter. One of the Quick girls’ greatest losses was the death of their father, Dr. James Severin Quick, on July 5, 2015. Alissa was also preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Anna Sather Quick of Starkweather, North Dakota and Victor and Joan Davenport of Oakley, Hampshire, England. Alissa was a beautiful, kind, loving, and talented soul who had a wicked sense of humour. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. Alissa was passionate about her family and was deeply loved. Alissa’s family also includes friends who were as close as family, her music friends, and teachers, and connections from many different places. One of Alissa’s many gifts was using her passions to spark a conversation, and many friendships began through books, genealogy, and music. She was also a talented baker and if you’ve ever tasted one of her rhubarb pies, you know how lucky you are. Alissa’s college degrees were in library science and music. She studied in Colorado and in Wales, United Kingdom. She always said her ‘day job’ was a means to an end, to pursue her primary interest, music. She belonged to several bands and ensembles, making lifelong friends in the process. Reading and collecting books was another passion of hers, and she curated her personal library that spanned many genres. Her expertise in genealogy connected her to many distant family members as she researched both sides of her family. She was the Quick family’s go-to researcher and holder of family history. Alissa loved animals and she took care of many friends’ pets while they traveled. She later turned this into a side job and each new person she met through pet sitting turned into a friend. Alissa was a lifelong learner. Books, genealogy, and crocheting were her hobbies. Friends were her joy. Music was her passion. A memorial service will be planned by her immediate family for all who can attend either in person or virtually, later this year. In the meantime, celebrate her life by taking some time to pause and make a pot of tea, listen to a piece of music that she loved, or read a book you know that captured her imagination.
