Bill was my step-father for 35 years, but that is only one title he held for me. He was also my mentor, my encourager, my teacher, my counsel, my travel companion, my friend, my guide, etc. He is dearly missed and thought of daily. I am blessed to call him my father.

When I went to Illinois Wesleyan we were required to take a religion course and this was something I was not particularly excited about doing. Resigned to get this requirement out of the way I signed up for Rev. Dr. White's class since it fit in my schedule. It turned out to be one of my most memorable and favorite classes at Wesleyan. Rev. Dr. White was not only a thoughtful professor and scholar, but he also was a generous, tolerant person. He taught both in the classroom, and through the example of how he lived his life and interacted with all others. As a result he had a lasting positive impact on my life that still resonates decades later. Please accept my sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. Marla Donato

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Rev. Dr. White.  I am an alumna of Illinois Wesleyan '82 and have the fondest memories of Dr. White.  He was an inspiration.  He was a true gentleman and man of God in the truest sense.  This may seem like not a new statement to you as you knew his devote beliefs and dedication to his work.  However, for a young Catholic girl from the suburbs of Chicago who took his January Introduction to Christianity course, I found him to be awe inspiring.  I had for the longest time explore and been open to visiting churches and services of all denominations -- but it wasn't until I had Dr. White in class that I was able to piece together my experiences with the history of Christianity that it all came clear to me and has had a life long resonance.  We are all one and our challenge is to come together to celebrate and nurture that in each other.  He shared his life with us so freely.  And he shared with us his faith and love for the Lord and humanity.  

I will be forever grateful to him and am blessed to have had him touch my life. 
Blessing to you all in this time of pain and as you find ways to move forward.  
Please know that there are so many others like myself who have been touched by him and who have been changed. 

We look forward to seeing him again as we one day cross over.

Ann, I will miss seeing the two of you at various events. My respect for Bill was enormous. I will not be able to attend the memorial service but you will certainly be in my thoughts.
