Vera M Wheeler

Vera M. Wheeler, 96, of Bloomington passed away at her residence and surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. She was born January 10, 1927 in Minier, IL, to Hugo and Lettie (McGinnis) Pleines.

Vera married the love of her life, Edwin Wheeler on September 15, 1945. Together the two had 15 children and spent many years together, prior to his passing on March 5, 1977. She was a people person and enjoyed getting to know others. Vera also liked going for walks and bird watching as well as spending time with her large family.

Surviving are her children: Harold Pete (Shirley) Wheeler, Michael (Sherita) Wheeler, Evelyn Knackstedt, Emily Girbert, Kathy Wheeler, Danny Wheeler, Linda (Mike) Busing, Julie (Terry) Francis, Carol Sharp, David Wheeler, Karen (Richard) Knackstedt, Rose Wheeler, Bobby Wheeler; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She is also preceded in passing by her parents: Hugo and Lettie Pleines;sons: Steve Wheeler, Jimmy Wheeler; 3 great-grandchildren; 8 siblings; son-in-law: Jesse Knackstedt; and dog: Freckles.

Arrangements and cremation rites have been entrusted to East Lawn Funeral Home, Bloomington. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and Vera’s urn will be laid to rest at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VA.
