Robert W. Cushman

Robert Wayne Cushman, 86, died April 3, 2022 with his loving family by his side in Tampa, FL. Born in Normal, Illinois on October 15, 1935, he married Sally Anne Holman in 1959. He is survived by his sons Robert B. of Plant City, FL, Mark (Tilghman) of St. Charles, MO, Daughter Cindy (Paul) Stutz of Salem, OR, and six grandchildren (one deceased), brother Roger(Elaine) Cushman, sister Cathy(Chuck) Mardis and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Sally and his parents, Roger and Lenora Cushman.

Bob (known to his friends as Scooter), graduated from Normal High School in Normal Illinois, where he competed in both basketball and baseball. Bob then continued his education and sports career at Illinois Wesleyan University, graduating with a degree in Business Management in 1958.

After graduation, Bob served in the Army and was a member of the 16th Infantry Rangers Regiment, becoming a member of the Ranger's basketball squad and traveling across Europe competing.

After his time in the military, Bob joined General Telephone as a Manager supervising offices throughout Illinois. In 1971, Bob moved his family to Tampa, Fl and joined GTE Data Services, where he spent the remainder of his career working on phone billing systems.

Bob loved the Bears and the Cubs, in addition to spending time with friends and family. His retirement years with Sally were filled with travels and adventures. After Sally's death, he enjoyed working out with his YMCA Silver Sneakers class friends, and loved taking long walks. His incredible memory and storytelling always brought smiles to those around him, and he will be missed by all.

A graveside service will be held at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, IL on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
